Dima Karout is a visual artist, curator and creative director originally from Damascus, Syria, who has lived and worked in London for over 20 years, following an international journey through Paris and Montreal. She holds a BFA in Visual Communication from the Fine Arts University of Damascus, an MFA in Contemporary Art from Paris VIII University, and a certificate in Creative Writing from Concordia University in Montreal. She works with mixed media — images, texts and installations — exploring human journeys, migration, identity, belonging and the relationship between people and places. Her socially engaged practice has taken her to leading institutions including the British Museum, Tate Modern, the Horniman Museum, the Migration Museum, RADA and Shakespeare’s Globe. She has worked closely with Lewisham’s community libraries as part of her Internal Landscapes project, supported by Arts Council England and the London Borough of Culture.
