This exhibition brings together a selection of paintings by John Bourne, presented by his family to mark his life and work. John was born in 1946 and spent most of his life in Catford, South East London, where he lived with his wife Mary. John was an artist throughout his life. His paintings were known for their warmth and brightness, a quality that made them enduring presences in the homes of people who knew him. Friends who supported a memorial fund in his name described his work as bringing daily pleasure across many years. One note from that time captures it simply: in John’s paintings, the sky is always blue and the sun never sets. He also had a reputation as someone who walked and painted constantly, and who, in the words of those who knew him, seemed to live his life to the full. This exhibition, presented at Manor House Library on 5 June, is a tribute from his family. His paintings are shown here as he left them.
