An exhibition of Chinese calligraphy and brush art, shown as part of ESEA Heritage Month The Heart of Brockley is an exhibition of Chinese calligraphy and brush art by Carry Hornby, presented as part of ESEA (East and South East Asian) Heritage Month. The exhibition traces the extraordinary evolution of Chinese written language across more than five thousand years, from its earliest pictographic origins through Oracle Bone inscriptions, Bronze Vessel engravings and Seal script, to the fluid Standard style characters we recognise today. Each piece reflects not just the history of a written language, but the meditative and cultural depth of calligraphy as a living art form. Alongside the artwork, the exhibition introduces visitors to the four ways Chinese words are constructed: through pictograms, ideographs, phono-ideographs and determinative phonetics, revealing the ingenuity and beauty of a writing system that has endured for millennia.
